Tips to organise a pyjama party

On Thursday, I was talking with a friend and, out of nowhere, I proposed to host a pyjama party at my place on Saturday night. I did not have a lot of time to organise it or to do the grocery shopping, but we managed to have a great night so let me share with you my recipe for an amazing pyjama party between grown-ups!

Friends and venue

A pyjama party will never be one without a brunch of friends to share it. We were four, which is perfect to have great time in my flat! I asked them all to bring their pyjama, a pair of slippers, a towel and a night cream (because I mostly have skin care products for oily skin).

Two hours before they arrived at my place, I was free to clean and do the grocery shopping. It was a little bit of a rush, for me, but I managed to make it so… well done, Cyrielle! (Hopefully, I had nothing to cook or bake.)

At first, we thought about having only sugary stuffs to eat, but one friend proposed to bring homemade crêpes to fill with yummy salty things (goat cheese, blue cheese, emmenthal, spinach leaves, beet root,…) as galettes from Britannia. In case we had leftover of crêpes, I bought Nutella, peanut butter, honey, lemon juice, banana, whipped cream… to do sweet crêpes as well.

As you can see it on my picture, we had enough sugary things to become diabetic! I bought cupcakes, chocolate fingers, cookies, marshmallows, tons of berries, two Cookie Dough Ben & Jerry’s ice creams… And another friend brought us one chocolate cake and a raspberry cheesecake!

Even of we were very hungry, we had leftover so I share it with my friends to not become too fat!

As we are grown-ups, we can drink alcohol (but moderately, of course). We prepared a German cocktail with one bottle of mild white wine, a bottle of Prosecco, some berries and a bit of sugar. After leaving it in the fridge for 30-45 minutes, we enjoyed it a lot. For non-alcoholic parties, you can use sparkling apple bottles as the French Champomy.

I also had Diet Coke, orange juice and water in my fridge. And become we all enjoy teas and herbal infusions, I brought all of my collection for my friends to taste a warm cup!

Beauty activities

Even if I downloaded some rom coms and I borrowed a few DVDs at the university library, in the end, we did not have time to watch them: we spent all of our time with the beauty activities. We had the TV on to have a musical background and we enjoyed especially some video clip from 5-10 years ago (you know, Britney, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Daft Punk, Justin Timberlake, The Black Eye Peas…). I have subtitles on my English TV… it was like a karaoke!

Since beauty is one of my passion, I shared my tips and my variety of products with my friends.

We started with face skin care and followed these steps:

- removing makeup gently with an oily product

- cleansing the skin

- doing a face steaming with some essential oils or herbs

- using a face scrub

- doing a facial mask (I bought Cupcake and Catastrophe Cosmetic from Lush, I knew my friends will love them)

- applying a face toner, a skin care and an eye cream.

Because, of course, we were talking a lot and everything, we forgot to use a lip scrub and a lip balm.

After this, we did a complete manicure, like this:

- removing nail polish and washing hands

- leaving hands inside a soapy and bubble-y warm water bowl

- cutting and filing nails (and gently pushing cuticle back)

- applying a coat of base, two coats of nail polish and one coat of top coat (with the help of express dry drops)

- using a hand cream to moisture the skin.

I also showed them how to use wax to remove hair (it feels weird that I was the only one not to shave). If we had time, we would have token care of our hair and feet too. Unfortunately, five hours is not enough for everything! :-)

In the end, we really had fun and we were all very pleased by this night. To do more often, for sure.

Butterfly wall as seen in Gossip Girl

One of my most requested articles each month on my French blog is about my wall of butterflies, or butterfly wall art.

I discovered wall art years ago by watching TV as butterflies decors were on top of Serena’s bed in her room in Gossip Girl and flowers decors are disposed in Diana’s bedroom in The Secret Circle (yeah, I know, I am such a TV-holic!).

I really had a crush about this new way to personalised your room… so I tried to find, online, how to do the same… and I discovered that these art works are from Paul Villinsk and cost a fortune. I asked to Google, as know as my best friend, if I could find a less expensive option to create the same effect on top of my bed in France, and I found some metallic flowers in Amazon, for example. But it was still too expensive and definitely not colourful enough.

In the end, I found a cheaper alternative on Etsy where hundreds of colourful butterflies, flowers, birds… are available. And I chose the wall 3D butterflies from MagicalWhimsy for my bedroom.

butterfly wallIn my bedroom in France, since it’s pretty colourful, I chose blue, purple and pink butterflies. I wanted them to “fly away” from my bed and I still enjoy this atmosphere, two years later.

wall of butterfliesSince I am gonna stay for 3 years in my flat in Exeter, I placed a new order to MagicalWhimpsy. This time, I have chosen shimmery black, shimmery white and beige butterflies and, because I already have a big picture on top of my bed, I disposed the butterflies in a small circles as in Gossip Girl.

I hope this article will help you if you don’t know how to create this romantic atmosphere!
